“Our child loved having teaching in hospital.  Usually they are reluctant and shy to do school work but in this setting and approach he thrived at it and found it as a great comfort and pleasure to do and was excited and couldn’t wait for the visit/ session.  It helped with routine and some sort of normality and gave a positive focus and energy to look forward to.”

Serving an area from west to east Wales up to mid Wales and towns and cities close to the English border, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital is the largest healthcare provider in Wales.

 

The teaching office is based on the upper ground floor – opposite Jungle Ward and the education team work with school age children and young people admitted to the paediatric wards.  These include Butterfly and Ladybird wards on the Owl Wing, Island Ward, Pelican Ward, Renal Ward, Rainbow Ward and the ward for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

 

Who is eligible for this service?

  • Children between the ages of 4-16

  • Children who havemissed 15 days of schooling during their stay in hospital across the period of one year 

  • Children who are well enough to access this service

How does hospital teaching look here at Noah’s Ark?

Following the advice of medical staff we will meet with you to discuss your child’s educational needs and set up teaching.

Motivational factors will be established and utilised so that learning is fun, dynamic and engaging during your child’s stay in hospital.

We liaise directly with your child’s school to ensure consistency and continuity with their learning.   Weekly updates are provided to school on your child’s progress.

Teaching takes place at bedside and also in the ward playroom (9 - 12 noon then 1 - 3.30pm so that lunchtime is a protected time for our learners.)

We are keen to continue any work provided by school – homework included!

We provide a learning environment that is fun – bringing a sense of normality to your child’s day!
