School Development Plan / Cynllun Datblygu Ysgol

At Nyth y Deryn, we are committed to continuous improvement to ensure that every pupil receives the highest quality education, care and support. As a pupil referral unit, our vision is to provide a nurturing, inclusive and ambitious learning environment where young people can rebuild confidence, develop resilience and achieve positive outcomes for their future.

Our improvement priorities focus on strengthening teaching and learning, ensuring that all pupils are engaged, challenged and supported to make meaningful progress from their individual starting points. Through high-quality, trauma-informed practice, we strive to meet the diverse needs of our learners and remove barriers that may have previously impacted their education.

We provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum that is carefully adapted to meet the needs of our pupils. Our curriculum continues to evolve, offering valuable learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom, helping young people develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for lifelong learning, employment and active citizenship.

Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We place a strong emphasis on safeguarding, attendance, emotional wellbeing and positive relationships. Working closely with families, mainstream schools, local authority services and a range of external agencies, we ensure pupils receive coordinated support that promotes both personal and academic success.

As a school in Wales, we are proud to promote Welsh language, culture and identity through our daily practice and curriculum offer. We are committed to supporting pupils to become ambitious, capable learners; healthy, confident individuals; ethical, informed citizens; and enterprising, creative contributors in line with the Curriculum for Wales.

Careful financial planning enables us to invest in staff development, resources and learning environments that enhance opportunities for our pupils. By working collaboratively and reflecting on our practice, we continue to develop Nyth y Deryn as a safe, supportive and inspiring place where all young people can thrive.
